After nearly 20 years of revisiting them through our memories—and keeping them alive thanks to the iconic X-Men animated series from the mid-’90s—2024 finally gave superhero fans the masterpiece we had been waiting for: X-Men ’97.
Like many longtime fans of the original series, we approached it with cautious optimism. We hoped for something good, but what the creators delivered in the first season exceeded every expectation.
The series brought back the nostalgia we grew up with, featuring beloved characters from the original cartoon while introducing new faces that added a fresh and exciting dynamic to the story. With just 10 episodes, the first season became an instant hit and left fans eagerly anticipating what would come next.
The big question, however, remained: could Season 2 maintain—or even surpass—the incredible quality of those first 10 episodes released in 2024?
From my perspective, the answer is a resounding yes.
We’ve had the chance to watch the first six episodes of Season 2, and we absolutely loved them.
I won’t spoil any major plot points, but since the episode titles had already hinted at what was coming, I can safely say that some legendary villains make their return—including one of my all-time favorite Marvel characters: Apocalypse.
The series takes us back to ancient Egypt, exploring his origins and showing how En Sabah Nur became the terrifying force known as Apocalypse. It’s a compelling introduction that adds even more depth to one of Marvel’s most iconic villains.
Beyond the storyline centered around the first mutant, the season also introduces several new characters—whose identities I’ll leave as a surprise—that fans are sure to enjoy.
As the story unfolds, the X-Men find themselves slowly losing hope while desperately trying to hold on to what little remains. With the odds stacked against them, Professor Xavier once again steps forward, determined to restore the team’s fractured reputation and lead his beloved X-Men against the growing threats that stand in their way.
If you haven’t started watching X-Men ’97 yet, don’t hesitate for a second. It’s an incredibly entertaining series that perfectly captures the spirit, emotion, and excitement of the original animated show from the mid-’90s.
This season will consist of nine episodes and is expected to conclude on August 12, so there’s still plenty of time to catch up before the finale.
